Privacy policy
Effective October 21, 2026
Secret Family Recipes is made by Comparative Imaging, Inc., Washington, Utah, USA. This policy explains what the app does with your information. In short: your recipes stay on your device, there are no accounts, and nothing is tracked.
What stays on your device
- Recipes, photos, notes and versions are stored only in the app on your device. They are included in your device's own backups (iCloud or Google), which we can't see.
- My Food Profile (diet, allergies and preferences) is stored only on your device.
- Scans are read on your device by Apple's or Google's built-in text recognition. Camera access is used only to scan recipe cards and pages.
- We don't use analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting services, and we don't collect your name, email, contacts or location.
When information leaves your device
Only when you choose to do one of these:
- Sharing: when you send a recipe or cookbook by AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Files or print, it goes where you send it.
- Add from Web: the app loads the web page whose address you enter, the same as a browser would.
- Ask AI: the app builds a prompt from the recipe (and your food profile, if you leave it switched on) and shows it to you first. It goes to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another AI only if you copy or open it there, and that service's own privacy policy then applies.
- Find Source: opens a web search for phrases from the recipe so you can credit where it came from.
- Claude reads: if on-device reading can't make out a scan and you choose to use a Claude read, the scan image and its text are sent to Anthropic's Claude to be read. With purchased reads, this goes through our server, which forwards it to Anthropic and keeps no copy. If you enter your own Anthropic API key instead, the app sends it straight to Anthropic. The app asks before the first Claude read. Anthropic processes the content under its commercial terms and doesn't use API content to train its models.
Purchases
Purchases (unlocking unlimited recipes and packs of Claude reads) are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. To keep track of Claude reads you've bought, our server stores a random ID the app creates, the number of reads left, and the store's transaction IDs. It holds no names, emails or recipes.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Your choices
- Delete a recipe in the app, or delete the app, to remove everything stored on your device.
- Turn the Claude backup off in Settings at any time.
- To have your Claude-reads record deleted from our server, email us. Any unused reads will be lost.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its effective date.
